Stars of New Eden: Part 1

Blue suns, purple suns, green suns, suns of all shapes and colors. Watching the various sun shades glitter off the metallic hull of my Buzzard was strangely hypnotic. If you haven't gone to take a closer look at some of your local stars in the constellation or region of New Eden that you are in, then you are truly missing out on one of the easier sights to explore in Eve Online.

It's a minor thing and perhaps something that most of us would take for granted, but I appreciate the lighting detail as you would turn to the sunny side of your ship and have the light of the star you were near reflected off your hull in hues of that color.

Some of the information you can find out about your local star include:

  • Luminosity
  • Age
  • Radius
  • Temperature
  • Spectral Class

Don't just trust the information or description of the star either. All of the stars in this post are technically (by New Eden standards), Blue Stars. Some are giant, some are dwarf, one is ancient while another is very young.

So for example, the screen shot above shows an F7-VI Spectral Class star with a luminosity of .39. It is a Blue Star. Likewise, the one below is another Blue Star, this one with a luminosity of .38 and is also an F7-VI Spectral Class star!

So what explains the difference in their different color aside from a .01 luminosity separation? The temperature difference between the two stars are negligible and they are actually about the same size. The difference is in age! One of the stars is over 2.5 billion, while the other is nearing it's 5 billionth birthday.

Stay tuned as I explore further into what makes New Eden's stars shine!
